My life experiences as an Australian born OCD sufferer gave me a reason to create this illustration – The Ruined Psyche. It depicts a bleak version of me, which I have dubbed as Ruin, consuming my shattered psyche. Ruin is my depiction of my OCD, an internal force that is me yet it is not. It forces its desires onto me and I cannot resist it. It can take hours off my life that I wanted to spend doing anything from sleeping to working. I will spend over four hours to please it at the expense of sleep or even my own flesh.

The illustration is created as a polygon self-portrait to depict the restriction of the “chaos” that OCD causes within the “order” or confines of geometry. While each shape is clearly defined, the shapes themselves are highly irregular which I believe, perfectly depicts this struggle. Ruin is shown as a bleak figure while my psyche is radiant and colourful. Ruin is made to perfectly contrast with the psyche.
